When working with clients, I utilize an eclectic approach, and incorporate strategies from a variety of treatment modalities. Although I strongly utilize a client centered and cognitive behavioural approach, I don’t believe there is a one size fits all approach for therapy so I tailor my approach individually for each person; I think everyone is unique, and that their journey in therapy should reflect this. I also believe that creating a relationship is an essential component of effective therapy and understand that trust is something that needs to be built throughout the therapeutic process.
I also view therapy as a collaborative journey, and that clients are the experts on their own lives, so it only makes sense to have their input and wisdom as part of the experience. I believe in a practical, evidence and skill-based hands-on approach to counselling, and that humor and seeing the silver lining can be an essential part of dealing with life’s adversities.

My counselling strategy draws upon an integrative approach which is built on the foundation of Carl Rogers’ core conditions of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. From this basic foundation, I use a composite of intervention techniques to address the multifaceted concerns of clients. Through establishing a non-judgmental and accepting environment, I collaborate with clients on finding meaning and values-based action to promote healing and constructive change. My therapeutic interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy (NT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT).

I have counselled collaboratively with diverse clients and embrace what makes each person unique by way of their race, culture, religion, and sexual orientation. I believe that people are social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, physical and occupational beings, so my goal is to work with clients on those aspects, that for them, are most pressing.

How I realized I wanted to be a support for people was initially through my experiences at the University of Alberta’s peer support centre. I was humbled to be a part of people’s journeys as they navigate complex issues. From there, I joined the Edmonton Distress Line to be able to listen to and support people through different topics. In both roles, the strength of each individual I interacted with astounded me.
I enjoy theories based on gestalt theory and existentialism. In addition, I am interested in further learning about sex therapies, Gottman couples therapy, and play therapy.
Everyone has different coping strategies, and that is okay. For myself, they tend to revolve around my dog, being outside and reconnecting with nature, swimming, and playing interactive video games (World of Warcraft, Stardew Valley, and Rimworld).
