I believe in creating space for people to share their story. I have a warm, gentle approach and think that a large part of healing comes from exploring and processing experiences in a safe place. I like to help people grow and gain insight through supporting them to unravel life experiences in a validating and contained environment so that they can better understand the impact of their experiences, strengthen skills to manage related thoughts and emotions, and recreate stories and beliefs that are no longer helping them. I draw from a sound base of theories, and I relate from a heart-centred and compassionate place.

I have a Master of Counselling with a specialization in Counselling Psychology and have worked as a counsellor and social worker for several years. I have worked in the fields of addictions, youth work, and family support and intervention having graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2002 . I also have specialized training in addictions including an Addiction Studies Extension Certificate. I have special interest in addictions, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship issues, and mental health including but not limited to anxiety and depression. I work with individuals (adults, children, and adolescents), as well as couples and families. Using a strengths and empowerment perspective, I actively support clients to recognize their inner and outer resources and to foster self-compassion. I use an eclectic approach which is tailored to clients’ needs and grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy.

Primarily, I want people to feel supported and hopeful in their healing journeys.

Hello, I have been in the field for over 16 years and with Insight for 6.5 years. I continue to be passionate working with clients, helping them live their lives to their fullest potential.

I take a client-centered approach and I work with clients using modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Besides individuals, I work with couples and families. I also do a lot of work with clients who have experienced trauma.

I graduated with a Marital and Family Therapy degree from Loma Linda California in 2001 and I have well over 14 years of experience dealing with individuals of all ages. I have a wealth of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly providing individual and couples/family therapy. I’ve also worked in the field of Children’s Mental Health, dealing with complex and severe mental health issues in Alberta Health Services setting for over 7 years.

Although I have a strong background working with children’s mental health issues and system’s theory, my main focus and primary specialty at present is helping others deal with trauma. I have been trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and use this as a primary modality in working with trauma.

Trauma can be defined as a big “T” trauma with situations such as natural disasters and car accidents. Sometimes the most common trauma is small “t” trauma which includes ongoing chronic stressors that have a significant impact on a person’s emotional, mental, and physical functioning over time. Accordingly, the impact of trauma may affect people by creating symptoms, including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, memory loss, poor focus and concentration, poor sleep and eating habits, aggression, and perhaps an overall sense of sadness.

I specialize in dealing with some of the following issues: anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bipolar disorder, worry and obsessiveness, workplace stress, relationships and intimacy, grieving and loss, anger, adult ADHD, single incident trauma, complex trauma, post traumatic stress, test anxiety and separation/divorce. If there is a presenting issue not listed here, please feel free to ask me.

I enjoy working with individuals, teens, children, and families. I use a client-centered, strength-based approach and utilize evidence-based methods including play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and Rapid Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR). I am currently enrolled in the play therapy certification program through The Canadian Association for Play Therapy and have completed levels 2 and 3. I believe that early relationships are a vital contributor to each child’s development and behaviour in life, and that a key piece in those early relationships is the development of play. I have significant experience working with children and teens in schools, homes, group home settings, and a correctional facility. In addition, I have several years of experience working with children and families who have special needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders.

I have a Masters of Science in Psychology from the University of Northern British Columbia. I utilize an eclectic approach with an emphasis on client-centered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples/families to address a variety of issues that undermine one’s potential for happiness. These issues include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress management, body image, self-esteem, life transitions, behavioural issues, parenting issues, relationship struggles and family of origin issues. I have a special interest in working with individuals who are struggling to achieve or maintain a healthy weight and with individuals who are thinking about or have had bariatric surgery for weight loss.

I believe that every person deserves to, and can, live a happy, fulfilling, and healthy life. The struggles and challenges we sometimes face do not need to be battled alone. Sometimes we get “stuck” in life and do not have the tools to move forward. My goal as a therapist is to help clients explore their struggles and challenges, provide support during the healing process, and offer guidance as they disentangle from their past and begin to live freely in the present. I offer an accepting and safe space to heal, grow and change.
